Human errors that robotic cars collided “- Aftonbladet

Google autonomous vehicles have been involved in eleven accidents in six years.

The incidents blamed on people.

“Although we want to avoid all accidents are certain unpredictable, “says company manager boss.

Google’s autonomous cars have driven 2735884 km since the project was launched six years ago. During the period, the cars have been involved in eleven accidents, but all have been less serious and no one has been injured in them.

But what depends accidents on? Not the cars themselves, says Google.

“Although our software and sensors can detect problem situations and act earlier and more rapidly than any observant human drivers so we can sometimes not escape factors such as speed and distance. Sometimes we will be hit when waiting at a traffic light [...] Even if we wish to avoid all accidents are certain unpredictable, “writes Chris Urmson, director of Google’s program for self-driving cars.

The Google cars have collided comparatively more per kilometer than cars with human drivers. But the company points out that minor offenses, like Google recognizes, are not always going to the police and therefore can be difficult to make a direct comparison.
