Google’s self-driving car is now approved to run on the road – Design World

Now it is clear! Google’s self-driving car that Design World wrote about earlier, have now been approved to run on the road in California.

This summer, a few prototypes to leave Google’s test track and venturing out on the roads among real traffic. The prototypes will, for safety’s sake be staffed with test drivers, who can intervene if something goes wrong in traffic. In order to take control of the car, each driver take with a removable steering wheel, brake and accelerator pedals, as this is not standard in cars.

The prototypes are however equipped with the same software as their first self-driving car is already used to harvest 1.6 million autonomous kilometers. All the prototypes have also been restricted to 40 km / h to provide a minimal safety risk.

The reason why Google wants to drive the cars on real roads, so that they learn to deal with uncontrollable situations that can not be simulating the test track.
