She makes the office smart – New Technology

A toilet that no one used need not be cleaned. An empty trash does not need to be emptied. An electrical outlet that knows how long the projector has been operating can tell when it is time to replace the lamp.

– Can you guide the work needed rather than when the toilet was cleaned later you can save a lot of money, says Eva Fors, CEO of Yanzi Networks.

But to make a stupid smart property required thousands of connected sensors that collect information and software to analyze all the data. The sensors must be installed and maintained.

This is the challenge that Yanzi Networks tackles. Eva Fors long term goal is for the company to become one of the major global platform for the internet of things.

– A platform that is as wide as ours can be used in many different places, but on the other hand no obvious applications. To have a clear offer to potential customers, we have begun with the real estate industry.

There are now several customers. Partnerships with, among others, IBM and Intel will pave the way to international success. Anyone visiting the company’s website today can buy a number of different sensors. But Eva Fors sees itself not as the CEO of a hardware business:

– The fact that we sell hardware now because we need to get started. There are just too many closed solutions for smart buildings. We are convinced that in the end will be the open standards that win, she says.

Customers can buy the hardware they need to monitor the share of the property that they are interested in. Then they will turn to Yanzi Networks for the software that makes it easy to make and manage large installations of the “internet of things”. The business model is a starting cost per installed sensor, and then a monthly fee.

Many thousands of sensors in a property also means large amounts of data. Yanzi develops technology that allows much of the basic analysis can be carried out in the building.

A motion sensor in a conference must not always remain and report on any move in the room. The key is, for example, how many participants there are in the meeting, and when the room is empty again. Perhaps the conference room for 15 people divided into two smaller, maybe the ventilation can be turned off in the afternoons when it is normally not used at all.

– Our algorithms determine which data is “stupid” and which should be forwarded to our servers where it can be used in the operation. To not send all sensor values is also a way to reduce the sensors’ power consumption.
