New technology warns of bad cables – 99mac

A new software installed on a computer or mobile device can warn of cheap USB Type C cables that are not certified.

bad USB Type-C cable can seriously damage your computer or mobile device if things go badly. The organization USB Implementers Forum is working to certify USB cables, and has now developed a special authentication protocol to determine whether the connected cable is approved or not.

This means that a unit where protocol installed can alert the user to a connected cable to hold certificates, and not take charge of the cable. The same software can also determine if a hard drive connected with # USB Type C is encrypted, before the computer even try to read the information on it, reports Business Wire.

recently decided retailer Amazon to stop selling USB Type-C cables of low quality, precisely because they risk destroying the units they are connected to, reports Engadget. An engineer at Google also tested several cables last year, and found that only 3 out of 13 tested up to standards.
