Color your black and white images automatically – Camera & Photo

The computer program used to much, especially in automation. Camera & amp; Picture has previously written about Google who managed to write automatic captions to images using a computer program bildidentifierande.

Now, researchers at the University of California at Berkeley wrote a software that adds the color black and white images automatically. The method involves a million color images reviewed, and then be compared with the black and white images that are fed into the program.

Once an image has been analyzed clearly so the program can fill in the “right” color of the objects and present a colorized image. By using a so-called “Turing test”, the program’s creators see how genuine a person experiences the images – and the fact is that we are being deceived in a fifth of cases to believe that the computer colorized image is the original image.

Awesome find we – who also hope that this ends up as a filter in a future version of Photoshop, for example. Right now there is no easy way to use the program, but you have knowledge in the area so you can download the source code.

On the project website you can read more about the program, but also see the results of Colored pictures from the French photojournalist Henri Cartier-Bresson black and white originals.
