Google boosts its search algorithm – but what does it really mean? – Breakit (press release)

On 21 April last year, Google began rolling out its so-called mobile friendly algorithm. The update means that mobile-adapted sites ended up higher in the search system and was named “Mobilegeddon.” But the impact was not as dramatic as the name suggests.

Now, Google announced that an update of the search algorithm is going on. In May, the effects will be felt by clearer although it is unclear exactly how much. The goal is to “help users find pages that are relevant and mobile friendly.”

A web page counts as mobile friendly if it meets the following criteria:

# Avoids software that is unusual on mobile devices , such as Flash.

# Uses text that is readable without zooming

# Keeps a size on the screen so that users do not need to scroll horizontally or zoom.

# Puts links far enough apart so that the user can simply click on the right one.
