Rosling’s new software will change our world – New Technology

– Our vision is to create a Wikipedia with current public statistics and data collected through crowdsourcing, says Ola Rosling, son of Hans Rosling and CEO and co-founder of the Gapminder Foundation, which develops the educational visualization applications.

A driving force is to provide a factual picture of reality so that resources are prioritized correctly in refugee disasters and other crises.

– Rumors explode in emergency situations. But if important decisions are made on the basis of rumors or of documentary photographs is sent aid not to the areas where the need is greatest, says Ola Rosling.

In 2007, Google acquired Gapminder software Trendalyzer. Ola Rosling and his wife Anna Rosling, who is also co-founder of the Gapminder, got employment at Google in California. But after three years, the couple returned to Stockholm and Gapminder to further develop the technology at home.

In October launched the software Vizabi after two years of development . One of the news is that the world is split into more fine-grained parts. Previously, the entire country was represented by a single bubble. Now integrated system with a large number of local data sources, and the statistics are to be broken down to individual municipalities and cities.

– To show the average for China, the US or Sweden is misleading when the differences are so huge within countries, says Ola Rosling.

One of the main objectives is that teachers be able to explain the development of the world outside their own locality. Pupils in Borlange to understand the city’s history in a global context where the manufacturing jobs are moving from Dalarna to the provinces in China.

Another innovation is that the interactive visualizations will work on small touch screens on mobile phones and tablets. Gapminder release, for the first time its software as open source.

– I am confident that others will find brilliant ways forward programs, says Ola Rosling.

One thing is, however, like: everything is free.

- We would rather go under than the charge, says Ola Rosling.

The Foundation funded instead by a grant from the example Ikea Foundation and the Bill & amp; Melinda Gates Foundation, donations and grants from the talks.

The Foundation has three staff programmer at the office in Stockholm, and approximately another 18 who work on behalf of Ukraine, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

– They are all examples of middle-income countries that have reached a high level of education, just as we show in our animations, says Ola Rosling.
