Biggest attack on Appstore ever: The apps infected – Business Week

Dangerous software has been spread in iOS apps to some Chinese developers have used the wrong software. Here are some of the affected apps.

The first major hacker attack that hit the Apple App store has affected hundreds of popular apps. Yesterday, Apple began to clean up the Appstore after several cyber security firms identified the malware Xcodeghost several hundred normal apps. According to Reuters, this is because some Chinese developers accidentally used a counterfeit version of Apple’s software Xcode when they built apps.

The fake version of Xcode has been downloaded from a Chinese server by Chinese developers as this is faster than to download the original version from the Apple server. The developers have thus unwittingly spread the dangerous software to millions of users’ phones.
