Ericsson promises 1 Gbit / s 4g – New Technology

On a webcast press conference yesterday presented the Swedish mobile giant a number of products to be showcased at MWC, Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in a few weeks.

The software, called Gigabit-LTE is said to upgrade commercial 4g networks at download speeds of 1 Gbit / s.

– With 1 Gigabit / s, it takes just 5 seconds to download an entire season of television programs, said Arun Bansal, head of Ericsson’s business Unit Radio, also pointed out in many opportunities for the companies with the higher speed.

One explanation for the higher speed is greater MIMO antennas. According to Ericsson, the new solution two variants: a 4×4 MIMO antenna for higher frequencies and 2×2 MIMO antenna for the lower bands.

Mimo is an acronym for Multiple input multiple output, and means uses multiple antennas at the same frequency in both base stations and mobile. There is 4G base stations with 4 antennas (4x4mimo), but much more common, it is by 2. In today’s phones can fit two antennas per frequency band, but in tablet probably 8th

Ericsson’s new solution also makes it possible to combining 60MHz bandwidth from three different frequency bands, to provide more space for data traffic. The operator must have access to at least 60 MHz of spectrum in order to achieve the high speeds.

To take benefit of the entire improvement is required mobiles with new circuits.

– But we cooperate with chip manufacturers, and expect that this type of mobile phones this year, said Arun Bansal.

Ericsson is not alone in promoting improvements of 4g and tell gigabit speeds.

Huawei has talked a lot about the solution, which the company calls 4.5g, to be launched in 2016. the Chinese also collaborating with the Singapore carrier M1 to achieve 1 Gbit / s in the existing 4G network.
