According to Intel Security hijacked more computers in the first quarter of this year than during all of 2014. 35 percent of the infringements affected computer owners in Europe.

In Sweden , the most famous example of the current form of malware, the so-called police virus where criminals claim that the computer is turned by an authority because the owner did anything improper online and therefore must pay “fines” to re-gain access to your computer.

In recent times, however, it emerged cases where criminals do not even have the energy to play police officers. Pay if you want back content on your computer, it’s straight news.

But IT criminals are continually developing technology and this year a new form of malware, malware, appeared. It is believed to be created by the hacker group The Equation Group accused of at least 500 attacks in 42 countries. Via phishing links is attacked hard disk control software.

– The most frightening is that when this malware got into the hard disk is no way to get rid of it – no security software that helps, not even reformatting the hard drive. The only way to stop it is by the infringement itself, says Christoffer Callender, security expert at Intel Security.

So far, the new type of attack only directed at companies and authorities, he points out.

– But when the technology exists, it will also gradually becoming cheaper and more available for criminals to use, and it is a development that can go fast. So even if there is a concrete threat today, it is advisable to prepare it can get it, says Christoffer Callender.
