New house at KTH – just hardware – New Technology

       

The Internet of Things, electronics that you wear on your body, 3D and medical technology. That’s some hot areas that companies in the new innovation house “Things” at KTH in Stockholm working with.

A dozen companies have already begun to move into the house formerly lab Institute for Surface Chemistry.

Linda Krondahl, president of Things, shows around. The renovation is still ongoing. Among other things, the workshop is not yet complete. Here, among other things, be 3D printers, laser cutters and soldering station.

– All companies will have free access to the workshop to For example, prototyping, says Linda Krondahl.

In cooperation with KTH companies can also take advantage of other workshops and labs.

To become a member, as the tenants called, the company will primarily work with the hardware.

– You do not necessarily develop their own hardware, but the product should be linked to hardware, clarifies Linda Krondahl.

Several large companies, including ABB, Assa Abloy and Husqvarna, is engaged in Things.

– They may have people here to scout for new technology trends and work with companies who are sitting here, says Linda Krondahl.

The house also has conference and meeting rooms, for seminars, workshops and events, and of course a café.

The initiative for the Things came from the incubator Sting previously also initiated a similar site for digital startups in central Stockholm.

One of the companies that have already moved into the KTH anknoppningen Gleetchi who develop a software to animate hands.

– It is very difficult to animate how a hand grasps an object and make it look natural. Game designers therefore avoids hands, says Jakob Johansson, who started the company together with the two robotics researchers Kai Hübner and Dan Song.

They seek partners to get the software on the market.

– We already have a first partner in Holland which develops programs for the rehabilitation of stroke patients. There is a great need for alternative amination in many areas. One is a virtual reality where it happens a lot right now, says Jakob Johansson.
