Late Tuesday evening revealed that the Volkswagen Group also cheated with carbon dioxide emissions of 800,000 cars.

Jacques Wallner, Dagens Nyheter’s engine editor determines what the new data mean for the Group and consumers.

1 What’s new cheats that the Volkswagen Group (VW) said on late Tuesday night?

Now it if the big emitters of carbon dioxide, which increases global warming, with 800,000 cars, most with diesel engines and a smaller share of petrol engines. According to Germany’s Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt be 98,000 gasoline vehicles covered by Volkswagen’s latest revealed cheating.

2 What sets this against the previously revealed cheating?

The first big scandal about the large emissions of nitrogen oxides, which are harmful to health, mainly for breathing. It was hidden in tests by a sneaky software that knew that the test was in progress. It includes approximately eleven million cars and it was only when the US EPA demanded that VW would fix this as the news exploded.

The next revelation is about 10,000 cars sold in the United States, 2014 to 2016 model year with V6 diesel three-liter found in the Audi A6 Quattro, Audi A7 Quattro, Audi A8, Audi A8L, Audi Q5, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg. The US EPA states that the software installed in the cars allows up to nine times more nitrogen oxide emissions than permitted.

VW does not recognize this without denying inaccuracies. Therefore, we do not know either if also cars in Europe are concerned.

3 Which car makes, models and engines affected in the last third, the revelation?

It does not tell VW. But the German newspaper Der Spiegel report that a source said that it is about the following makes and models: the Audi A1 and A3, SEAT Leon and Ibiza, Skoda: Octavia, Volkswagen: Polo, Golf and Passat.

4 Which countries are involved?

It does not tell VW.

5 When will we know?

It does not tell VW.

6 How will customers be compensated?

It does not tell VW.

7 What now?

In all likelihood, the authorities and customers in Sweden and other countries require sensible answer from VW. Cars have received tax subsidies in Sweden, though they do not deserve it? Will the customers’ cars are now getting higher vehicle tax since it is calculated on carbon dioxide emissions? The cars that were sold with false specifications repurchased? Or, customers could in any way be economically compensated?

8 Why is VW’s information so meager?

Yes, it is difficult to answer. In Sweden, the Volkswagen Group that information must be correct; that is why the responses are delayed. But it is difficult to understand why. VW knows that about 800 000 cars are concerned – you know the group after also which models and engines in question. Information tactic of VW is incomprehensible. Standard construction in these situations is to tell you who it is, to reveal what is to reveal all at once. Now, waiting hopefully for a time a stream of new information about the various cheats.

It is not optimal for the group who want to protect their brands.
